Happy New Year!

Kristina’s colour inspiration #36

Hi everyone!

I hope you’ve all had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year! I had a very hectic lead-up to Christmas, no rest for the wicked as my Mum says (but I’m not wicked, really!). With my job I was going from one supermarket to the next for over a week before Christmas, making sure the freezers were well stocked. I actually really enjoyed it – jumping out from behind my desk crunching numbers all day to getting out there and helping to sell food to shoppers, it was good fun! I had some wonderful news on Christmas Eve, a legal problem we’ve been battling since the end of March was finally resolved that afternoon, so what a relief and a wonderful Christmas present that was! If you are one of my customers and thought that I seem to have been distracted this year at all, that’s why. I won’t bore you with the details, just know that I am a lot happier than I’ve been for quite a while! My New Year’s resolution is to get my house in order (literally!) and sort things out so I can keep in touch with everyone better. Posting regularly on here is a good start, so we’ll see how I go!

This week’s colour challenge that Kristina set us was fabulous, just four colours to work with, I can cope with that much easier! I very quickly whipped up this card last night while everyone else was celebrating New Year’s Eve (well, when you’ve only got a 4 year old to party with, it doesn’t get to be a loud party does it!). I was in my element though totally, ahh yes I’m an old nanna before my time 🙂

I am so grateful to Kristina, she may not realise it but my design and photography / editing skills are getting a real push with doing her challenges. I have Photoshop Elements 6 and only just figured out how to lighten shadows tonight (blush!). She’s also making me use the stuff that I, err…. hoard and drool over usually and don’t use, but that’s all changing! I kept this card super simple, I wanted the image to stand out and not be overshadowed by too much other “stuff” like I always want to add. Believe me, I stared at this card for longer than it took me to make it. I resisted the temptation to round the corners, add a knot of ribbon, mat the white cardstock, put more felt flowers on…

And guess what? This is made using a brand new stamp set – called Yummy, it’s one of our Sale-A-Bration sets! SAB started today, yahoo!! I will do a separate post for it, up next. But for now, here’s my card.

The swirl and the words are all one stamp, so I used my Rose Red, Old Olive and Pretty in Pink markers to ink it up. Isn’t it beautiful? Love that swirl border. I wonder whether I should have used the Rose Red for the word “Something” and the Pretty in Pink for the smaller words instead though. Oh well, I still think it’s nice this way. I added some felt flowers in Rose Red and Old Olive, secured with a clear Rhinestone brad from the Pretties kit. Then I simply layered the Whisper White cardstock over the 1″ wide stitched Rose Red grosgrain ribbon (yum!) on a Pretty in Pink base card. The Whisper White is 3D mounted using Stampin’ Dimensionals, I just love using those. There’s a lot of them in this card! You can just make out the fact that it’s 3D because of the shadow on the left edge. I put the felt flowers so they were slightly off the top edge of the white piece so they connected with the ribbon, otherwise it’d look like I just plonked them on there and they’d be floating in nowhere land. I resisted the urge to fill up the remaining white space with stamping or more flowers – a bit of white space is good, right Kristina?!

Hope you like it, please do post a comment or e-mail me and let me know what you think!
